Dr. Michael Emery is the owner of Academic Consulting Associates, a health sciences consulting business that assists academic programs in the health sciences with accreditation preparation, strategic planning, faculty and curriculum development and program expansion. He established a physical therapy faculty practice at Sacred Heart University and implemented two ABPTRFE certified PT residency programs.
He is recently retired as the chairman of the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Science at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. He was the founding DPT program director of the physical therapy program at Sacred Heart University, which also included undergraduate and graduate programs in athletic training and exercise science. He established a physical therapy faculty practice at Sacred Heart University and implemented two ABPTRFE certified PT residency programs. In his role as Associate Dean of the College he was active in new program development, faculty development and marketing for graduate education programs.
His published work includes a textbook on clinical practice leadership and numerous publications in the areas of clinical education, educational leadership and faculty development. He currently serves on the Foundation for Physical Therapy Scientific Review Committee.
He served as the Chairman of the Commission for Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education for five years. He continues as a CAPTE site visitor and team leader. He is a recipient of the APTA Lucy Blair Service award and is a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association. Mike was a member of the work group that designed and implemented the Education Leadership Institute (ELI Fellowship) of the APTA and has continued as an ELI mentor since its inception.
